Does my 2003 golf gti have hydraulic or mechanical valve lifter?

All VW vehicles manufactured since the mid 1980's have hydraulic lifters and require no adjustment. Are you having an issue with tapping or loud noise?

I am having a tapping noise yes. a constant ticking. now when i was trying to order part i was asked which engine type do i have an 'X8' or 'X12', how do i find that out?
