Resetting Radio in '95 Golf.

I want to cancel the electronic lock up. So I look in the operating instructions. Following the instructions I get as far as seeing "1000" in the display. My code number on the Radio Card is 0355. But the book says "the first digit in a four digit code must be "1" If your code number has three digits, the first digit on display must be set blank". So how do I get the display to show 0355??
