transmission flush on a 2002 passat glx+how often?

car has origina 55,000 miles.2001.5 Vw Passat GLX.

According to VW you don't ever need to change the trans fluid which is what in my opinion causes them to fail quickly. I wouldn't flush the trans either I would just drain and fill it every 40k miles. Do you need instructions how to do that?
